POLICE have confirmed they are investigating allegations of fraud linked to Teignbridge Council.

The allegations have been made by a Teignbridge resident.

According to documents provided to the Mid-Devon Advertiser, Devon and Cornwall Police have told the person making the allegations that under the present National Crime Recording Standards (NCRS) they believe there is sufficient information for the police to raise a crime record investigating conspiracy to defraud dating back to 2006 and up to the present day.

The allegation concerns Teignbridge Council and potentially others. The documents stress this does not mean a crime has definitively been committed but, as with any allegation, it is a starting point and a matter of normal procedure.

A spokesman for Devon and Cornwall Police has confirmed that the force is investigating the matter saying: ‘We have received an allegation of fraud linked to Teignbridge Council by a member of the public.

‘We continue to review materials supplied by the reporting person in relation to this allegation. No persons have been arrested nor formally interviewed in relation to this allegation at this time.’

A spokesman for Teignbridge Council said they had yet to hear from the police in relation to any fraud allegation.

The police case number is: CR/052092/20.
