POLICE cadets in Newton Abbot tried their luck at buying e-cigarettes, vapes and tobacco related products in a ‘Challenge 25’ purchasing operation.

With oversight from officers from the Neighbourhood Support Team, the cadets, who were aged between 15 and 17-years-old, hit the streets of Newton Abbot on Friday, February 7, visiting 13 local business.

And only one failed to ask for identification.

‘We wanted to ensure that these businesses are complying with the legislation by not selling these items to individuals under the age of 18 and adhering to the “Challenge 25” retailing strategy’ a spokesperson for Newton Abbot Police said.

‘Only one business failed to challenge, however education was given to prevent this from occurring again’ the spokesperson added.
