YOU can now sit in comfort at a Devon theatre thanks to an extensive three quarter of a million pounds update.
The Princess Theatre in Torquay has undergone some exciting upgrades to give the theatre a fresh new look this summer.
The auditorium has undergone a major refurbishment including replacing the seating, carpets, curtains and improving the front of house areas.
"It is wonderful that ATG Entertainment, who manage the Princess Theatre on behalf of Torbay Council), have invested into this project to improve the experience of all our visitors to the venue,’ said theatre director Amy Worsdale.
‘ It demonstrates ATG Entertainment’s commitment to our community so we can continue to be South Devon’s home for world-class entertainment for generations to come.
‘We know that the shows we host here have a great impact on the local businesses and attract visitors to the area so this is great news not just for the theatre but the wider community.’
While significant funds have gone toward behind-the-scenes upgrades recently, it's been decades since noticeable investments were made to the audience spaces - meaning patrons are in for a treat on their posteriors!
Out have gone the red seats that have been in place since the theatre's 1961 grand opening, and they have replaced by plush new, blue, modern seating to enhance comfort.
‘The investment is about much more than just physical improvements to the Princess Theatre itself,’ added Stacey Hedge, Head of Marketing and Communications for ATG Entertainment.
‘It represents ATG's commitment to positioning the venue as a premier cultural destination capable of hosting world-class entertainment for the Torbay community.’
And the new seating brings a brand-new opportunity which has never been available at the venue s before as it is now possible to invest and adopt your own auditorium seat.
Whether you want to dedicate a seat to a loved one or celebrate a treasured memory of being in the Princess Theatre you can be part of the theatre's history with a personalised seat plaque.
