PARENTS and grandparents in Chudleigh Knighton and Hennock have been gaining first-hand knowledge of essential life saving skills.

The free two-hour sessions – ten parents/grandparents from Chudleigh Knighton Pre-school attended the first and a dozen from Hennock Primary School (pictured above) the second – were led by Claire Larkins, of Devon Community Training.

She demonstrated a range of skills from resuscitation of babies to dealing with a choking child – every parent’s nightmare.

Ms Larkins runs the essential life saving skills sessions across Devon and these were arranged thanks to funding from Chudleigh’s Teignbridge councillor Douglas Hellier-Laing through his own personal councillor’s basic salary.

The group in Hennock was organised by Alison Wonnacott. ‘We have had a wonderful response from the community of parents and grandparents who know just how important these crucial life saving skills are when help is so far away,’ she said.
