A NEWTON ABBOT man has been sent for trial on a charge of abducting a child under 16 from the lawful control of a woman.

The man in his 20s has pleaded not guilty to the charge of taking the child contrary to the Child Abduction Act of 1984.

He has also pleaded not guilty to a charge of repeatedly or continuously behaving in a controlling or coercive way towards a woman he was in a relationship with.

South and West Devon Magistrates' Court remanded him in custody to appear before Exeter Crown Court on March 16.
