NEWTON Abbot Community Transport has bought itself a brand new wheelchair-friendly 15-seater minibus, after receiving a grant from the Department for Transport.
The charity put in an application for the cash help about 18 months ago and were successful in getting around £55,000.
On Tuesday Newton Abbot MP Anne Marie Morris handed the keys to the new vehicle over to transport coordinator Keith Marshall.
Kay Yendall, the charity’s manager, said: ‘Our passengers and volunteer drivers are delighted with the new wheelchair-friendly vehicle and are looking forward to many more trips out.
‘We are always pleased to welcome additional volunteer drivers for our growing fleet of vehicles of various sizes and new passengers of course are welcome.’
l Newton Abbot Community Transport Association is appealing for past volunteers and trustees of the charity to get in touch.
The association would like to invite the past supporters from the last 25 years to a Silver Jubilee celebration which takes place on Wednesday, October 19.
