Newton Abbot Racecourse has abandoned its penultimate meet of this racing season on Saturday October 19 due to a waterlogged course.

This is the sixth meet the racecourse has been forced to abandon this year.

‘Following 15mm of overnight rain, an inspection was carried out this morning and, unfortunately, the track has been found to be waterlogged in several areas,’ the racecourse said in a statement. ‘With a weather warning in place for this afternoon and evening, along with further rain expected on Friday, there is no realistic chance of the track conditions improving,’ the racecourse added.

‘We are deeply disappointed, but the safety of all participants remains our priority,’ the statement concluded.

The start of this year’s racing season was delayed with three abandoned meets in the spring, meaning that the season opener was not held until May 20.

The final race of the season is scheduled for October 30.
