A NEWTON Abbot mum has been given a conditional discharge after her 11-year-old son failed to attend school.

The mum, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared before South and West Devon Magistrates' Court and pleaded guilty to being the parent of a child who failed to regularly attend a Newton Abbot school.

Magistrates gave her a conditional discharge for 12 months and ordered her to pay £26 to fund victim services.
