MORETONHAMPSTEAD Post Office has reopened this week, with a new Postmaster and at its previous location of 18 Court Street.
The opening hours of the branch will be Monday to Friday: 9am - 5.30pm and Saturday: 9am - 1pm. The branch will be closed on Sundays.
This is 46 hours and 30 minutes of Post Office service a week for the convenience of customers.
The Post Office Branch was closed in January 2020 due to operational reasons, and had not reopened since.
Matthew Walls, Post Office Network Lead, said: ‘We are delighted to have restored Post Office services to Moretonhampstead as we know how important a Post Office is to a community. The opening hours will make it very convenient to visit.’
Located in the heart of Dartmoor, the Moretonhampstead Post Office will be crucial for both the town and the remote communities scattered across the moorland.
Time-restricted parking with a designated disabled bay is available nearby. There are also local buses serving the surrounding area.
Local MP Mel Stride, who has campaigned for more than 15 years in support of rural post offices, has welcomed the move and described it as ‘vital’ for the town, and in particular for residents and businesses that rely on the banking services that post offices provide.
Mr Stride said: ‘The huge increase in online banking has led to bank branches closing across the country, particularly in small rural towns where footfall was sustainable.
‘This has rendered post office even more vital to the communities they serve. I have no doubt the re-opening of the branch in Moretonhampstead will provide a real boost to the town.’
