OF the more than 2,500 recorded burglaries in Devon and Cornwall last year only around five percent resulted in a charge or summons, a Freedom of Information (FOI) request has revealed.

Only 128 of the 2547 residential burglaries in 2024 resulted in charges being brought or summons being issued, which equates to roughly five percent, the FOI shows.

The data, which documents January 1, 2024 to December 31, 2024, shows that 68 of the burglaries resulted in injuries, ten of which were serious injuries.

Broken down by area, South Devon saw the most burglaries in 2024 at 553, with North and West Devon having the least at 297.

This comes as the number of recorded burglaries have increased every year since 2021.

1642 were recorded in 2021, 1794 were recorded in 2022 and 2242 were recorded in 2023.
