GET ready for a winter adventure filled with magic, trolls, seals, and storytelling in Teignbridge this month.
Tales of the Far North, an enchanting family show combining vibrant puppetry and storytelling that is set to delight audiences at Teignmouth’s Ice Factory Studio Theatre and the Moor Imagination Centre in Buckfastleigh from later this week.
Tales of the Far North features two heartwarming stories brought to life by the creative talents of Pip Jones (Skylarker) and James Richardson (Angel Heart Theatre).
Pip brings decades of experience in storytelling and participatory arts, while James is a master puppeteer and artisan inspired by myth, history, and the natural world. Together, they’ve created a show that’s as vibrant and engaging as it is heartwarming.
Angel Heart Theatre is a professional touring company with 25 years of experience, dedicated to the art of puppetry and storytelling. Specialising in original and colourful productions, the company breathes new life into classic tales and crafts entirely unique stories.
In Lucia and the Light (by kind permission of author Phyllis Root), brave Lucia ventures into the icy wilderness to rescue the sun from mischievous trolls. Following this, The Not-Invited Guest tells the tale of a lovable old man who outwits a smelly intruder to save his village.
As well as the show, Pip and James will be hosting two magical craft workshops at the Moor Imagination Centre, offering families the chance to unleash their creativity.
In the Trolls in the Light shadow puppet-making workshop, children will step into the enchanting world of shadow puppetry. Participants will craft their own troll puppets, which will be brought to life on a moon shadow screen.
The Light Unfurled lantern-making workshop invites families to create pyramid lanterns from willow and tissue paper. These lanterns will play a special part in the solstice performance of Tales of the Far North on December 21, illuminating the story of Lucia’s quest to rescue the light from the sun-stealing trolls.
These events have been made possible by Devon-based arts charity Villages in Action, working in collaboration with Skylarker, Angel Heart Theatre, The Ice Factory and Moor Imagination Collective.
Villages in Action was established to enliven and empower communities in Devon through engagement with the arts. They bring theatre, music, dance, circus, spoken word, storytelling, puppetry and poetry from around the world to village halls, churches and community spaces.
Tales of the Far North plays at the Ice Factory Studio Theatre in Teignmouth this Saturday (December 14) at 2pm, and at the Moor Imagination Centre in Buckfastleigh on Saturday, 21st December 21 at 2:30pm.
The Trolls in the Light shadow puppet-making workshop will take place at the Moor Imagination Centre on Monday, December 16 at 3:30pm, and The Light Unfurled lantern-making workshop will be held there on Friday, December 20 at 3:30pm.
