A LOG store has gone up in flames in Liverton.
Firefighters from Newton Abbot and a water bowser from Danes Castle dealt with the blaze.
They report on their Facebook page: ‘Yesterday evening, two appliances from Newton Abbot Fire station were mobilised alongside a further pump from Bovey Tracey and the water bowser from Danes Castle.
This was due to reports of a building fire in the Liverton area.
‘Upon the arrival of the IC (Incident Commander) from Bovey Tracey, it was clear that a structure was well alight. Smoke and flames were issuing from the building which was used to store and dry out logs ready for domestic use.
‘The IC committed two firefighting teams to tackle the fire. These teams used a hose reel and a 51mm jet to resolve the incident.
‘Due to the fire, the structure was left in a dangerous state and presented a very clear hazard to all around.
‘Therefore, the crews worked alongside the owners and ensured their safety as they removed what remained of the roof with a telehandler.
‘Once the roof was down, the telehandler helped "turnover" the remaining logs and other burning materials.
‘This was done so that other crew members could ensure everything was fully extinguished and apply one final dowsing of water prior to our departure.’
