MORE?than 100 people braved freezing temperatures to watch the Dawlish Christmas lights switch on. The event had a truly Christmassy feel, with a re-enactment of the nativity story and children from Gatehouse Primary School singing carols old and new. John Adcock, manager of Dawlish Community Transport, was the narrator, with the parts of Mary, Joseph, Angel Gabriel and so on, played by schoolchildren. Fireworks lit up the sky in the lead up to the big moment. 'The crowd turned round and all the lights came up, all the way round the Lawn and down the Strand. It was absolutely beautiful,' said mayor Cllr Helen Humphries. The crowd's patience for standing in the cold was rewarded afterwards with mulled wine, mince pies and hot dogs.
