Judges in this year's Teign Housing In Bloom garden competition had a tough job in choosing the three winners. Despite the dry weather, each of the bumper crop of entries was colourful and of a high standard. Leslie Linton was the winner of the individual garden category; Dawn Lee, from Doddiscombsleigh, won the container garden category and St Mary's Court, Newton Abbot, residents walked away with first prize in the communal garden section. Julie King, Teign Housing community development advisor, who organised the competition, said: 'We were thrilled to receive such a high standard of entries. 'Despite the baking hot weather, each of the gardens was a riot of colour and it was clear that a huge amount of effort and watering time had gone into making each garden look perfect. 'We were even more surprised to hear from Dawn Lee that in the spring she hadn't been planning to do anything special with her garden, following the death of her mother. She told us that she changed her mind and now dedicates her prize-winning garden to her mother. 'I'd congratulate every entry, but the three winners really did stand out for their colour combinations and wonderful planting.' Donald Joint, tenant board member; Joan Norwell, the Sheltered Panel; and Paul Frizzell ,from the tenants forum, helped judge the competition and presented the winners with their prizes – an engraved cup and £25 gardening gift vouchers.
