FIREFIGHTERS have released dramatic pictures from a barn fire in Chudleigh.

The photos, taken by Bovey Tracey Fire Station, show the aftermath of the incident, which took place on Sunday, March 30 and lasted into Monday, March 31.

Crews from Ashburton, Buckfastleigh and Newton Abbot were among the combined crew.

A spokesman for Bovey Tracey Fire Station said: ‘A breathing apparatus (BA) team were quickly committed using 51mm jets and hose reels to tackle the barn fire which was being used for storage.

‘Due to the size of the premises, additional support was requested from the Officer in Charge so more appliances were sent from Ashburton, Buckfastleigh and Torquay along with specialist units from South Molton and Totnes as well as several officers.

‘Crews used Compress Air Foam (CAFS) and ground monitors to bring the blaze under control and were able to prevent even more damage to other buildings.’

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said a bonfire that had got out of control was the cause of the blaze.
