KINGSTEIGNTON residents celebrated the King’s Coronation in style with a day of events, writes Shirley Simmons.
Kingsteignton Town Crier, Mrs Jackie Edwards, accompanied by escort Mr John Hart, welcomed residents to the Coronation celebratory event held at the community hall and grounds.
The Coronation service from Westminster Abbey was shown live on a large screen in the community hall, where many people gathered to watch the crowning of Kings Charles III and Queen Camilla, a historic moment to be remembered by all.
Outside in the grounds, the sun appeared in all its glory for the afternoon and children’s entertainers ‘Wizzbang’ delighted the children with magic and puppet shows and balloon model creations.
Mane events provided a children’s assault course, bouncy castle, a surf simulator, soft play area and giant games. All of these activities were free of charge.
Faces Glitz & Glam painted many creative designs on children and adults faces throughout the day. Kingsteignton Baptist Church, the Police Cadets and a Sea Cadet volunteer assisted with arts and crafts.
The police cadets also provided fingerprinting in key rings along with stickers. Our local police team were present throughout the event giving residents the opportunity to meet and greet.
In the large marquee, Steve Parr was our compere for the day and this was kindly sponsored by Sibelco. We would like to extend our thanks to them for this. He also performed live music with his ‘Pure Diamond Tribute Act’.
The Liberty Sisters and The Back Beach Boyz from Teignmouth, also got the crowds joining in singing and dancing the afternoon away!
Local charity KingsCare ran the raffle and prizes were given out late afternoon, with funds raised for the ‘#DoitforDeaks’ suicide prevention and the ‘Walking Alongside’ mental health.
Kingsteignton Mayor Councillor Ron Peart, accompanied by Mayoress Mrs June Peart, enjoyed the day celebrating with members of the community.
Huge thanks go to local mining company Sibelco for sponsoring this free event for the community of Kingsteignton and to all who volunteered.
