RESIDENTS of Abbotsbury Road in Newton Abbot were evacuated due to a gas leak yesterday evening, Sunday.

Newton Abbot Police had earlier reported on their Facebook page: ‘Police and fire are in attendance at Abbotsbury Road, Newton Abbot following reports of a gas leak.

‘Nearby residents are aware but the road will be closed for several hours.’

In an update they said: ‘The road is now being reopened, the gas has been sealed and residents are returning to their properties.

‘Thankyou to the public for their patience.’

A resident responded on their page: ‘I live not too far from it, it’s all under control just a car that had handbrake trouble and rolled into the wall of my neighbour’s with the impact it cut the gas pipe but nothing bad all okay.’
