THROUGHOUT March, Teign School students were motivated to raise money for Ukraine, firstly with a sale of donated books and then a cake sale.
The bake sale was planned and executed by three year 8 students, Madison B, Marianne B and Katie S, whose tasty treats made £70 towards the cause.
A team of student librarians ran the book sale with staff and students of all years donating and purchasing books (raising around £300).
The total raised by both these initiatives and some further donations was £390.83. This money has since been sent to the Red Cross Ukraine Emergency Appeal (since they have people on the ground distributing targeted aid in Ukraine).
School librarian, Jo Halse, who supported these events said: ‘I am proud to have been involved with a wonderful group of students in recent weeks who felt compelled to do something positive to help those suffering in Ukraine; whether it was through volunteering to help with the book sale, donating/purchasing items or baking cakes.
‘We hoped to raise around £100 initially selling books at 20p each but the generosity of our school’s community has meant we have been able to send a substantial sum to the Red Cross Ukraine Appeal, nearly four times what we expected to raise.’
