SEVERAL local organisations came together for a special wellbeing showcase at the Courtenay Centre.
The Mental Wellbeing Day took place on Thursday, June 29, and saw a number of local organisations showcase what they do.
There was much in the way of holistic therapy, including reflexology and massages, as well as information about the different voluntary sector organisations, such as Together, which helps with drugs and alcohol.
Some of the organisations present were: Devon Mental Health Alliance; Wellbeing in Action; Sisterwood, Qwell and Libraries Unlimited.
The event was organised by Bernadette McAuley, of Devon Mental Health Alliance, and Elaine Musgrave, community development worker for Teignbridge CBS.
‘This event allowed us as a community to see not only what’s on offer in or community, but we can also help each other as a community, and, therefore, support people coming through that are not very well,’ Bernadette said.
‘As a community development worker in Newton abbot, what I was often hearing from people is that they don’t always know where to go,’ Elaine said.
‘That low-level preventative mental wellbeing.
‘So this day really highlighted what the voluntary sector does have on offer in the area to support mental wellbeing and the link with mental health services.
‘That’s really key so that people have that awareness on how they take care of themselves,’ she added.
