Staff in the Emergency Department at Torbay Hospital will be much warmer thanks to the generosity of Torbay Hospital League of Friends.

The Emergency Department has taken delivery of more than 150 navy blue sleeveless fleeces thanks to a donation of over £2,194.02 from the League.  Each one is embroidered with the League’s beloved butterfly logo.

Matron Melody Andrews said: ‘We are thrilled to take delivery of these fabulous sleeveless fleeces for our team and really grateful to Torbay Hospital League of Friends without whom this wouldn’t have been possible.

‘In line with our infection prevention and control guidelines we practice ‘bare below the elbow’ in our Emergency Department. This means that at night and during the cold or rainy weather our colleagues can get quite cold. These sleeveless fleeces will make a real positive difference.”

Jasmine Li-Barker, Clinical Senior Sister, who led on the bid to the League said: ‘It is fantastic to have the support of the League and we are proud to show our gratitude by wearing their logo with pride on our fleeces.’

Patricia Roberts, President of the Torbay Hospital League of Friends said: ‘We were delighted to be able to fund warm gilets for the fantastic nurses in Torbay Hospital's Emergency Department.  It's vital that they stay comfortable and warm during long shifts, especially in the colder months, so that they can continue to provide the excellent care our community relies on.’

Torbay Hospital League of Friends, which celebrates its 70th birthday this year, is run by volunteers who have raised over £22m for Torbay Hospital and whose motto is “Helping to Care”. It is one of the leading Leagues in the country, raising millions of pounds to benefit local people and receiving the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service in 2012.
