A Kingsteignton headteacher has taken a bold step in the name of charity.

Last week, Rydon Primary School’s headteacher Nick Banwell shaved off his beard in aid of the Mental Health Foundation.

Half of the job was done during Key Stage 1’s morning assembly, with the job being finished during Key Stage 2’s assembly in the afternoon!

During the school’s morning assembly, Mr Banwell shaved half of his beard then, in the afternoon, got rid of the other half.

In total around £250 was raised for the charity.

Mr Banwell isn’t stopping the fundraising there – on April 24 he will be taking part in the London Marathon and has so far raised £887 towards his £1,700 target.

He is raising money for the Mental Health Foundation in memory of his sister, Julia Banwell, who died in 2013 after battling with mental health.
