Haytor Rocks are currently undergoing vital erosion repairs. The initiative aims to manage surface erosion at one of Dartmoor’s most visited locations in hopes of conserving and enhancing the park's landscape and promoting public enjoyment of the area's unique qualities.

The conservation efforts at Haytor have included gentle reprofiling to redirect water flow and reduce gullying. Additionally, large granite stones have been strategically positioned to divert water and minimize erosion, and deeper erosion areas have been backfilled with growan, a fine granite material sourced from Dartmoor itself.

Notably, the granite used for these repairs is all locally sourced, preserving Dartmoor's natural resources. The significance of these repairs ensures the continued accessibility of well-maintained paths for visitors while creating a habitat for the diverse wildlife that calls Dartmoor home.

Dartmoor National Park Authority has undertaken the repairs due to funding from the British Mountaineering Council’s Mend Our Mountains fund and Farming in Protected Landscapes.

By undertaking these erosion repairs, Dartmoor National Park Authority is not only preserving the park's natural beauty but also ensuring that visitors can continue to experience and appreciate this unique and cherished landscape for years to come.
