As the cold snap continues, Devon County Council have sent its gritters out in force.
Residents across the district woke up to a frost and cold start to the morning today with the winter weather causing traffic accidents across the area.
A Devon County Council spokesman said: ‘Every winter we grit 20 per cent of the county’s roads which carry nearly 80 per cent of the traffic.
‘However Devon County Council maintains nearly 8,000 miles of roads and it is not reasonably practical to grit every one, but we have determined out salting network on a risk basis.
‘The primary salting network is made up of the 37 major routes and in addition to roads with high traffic flow, it includes access to significant settlements, hospitals, ambulance stations, fire stations, other emergency services establishments and railway stations, airports and secondary schools’, the spokesman added.
The statement comes after several residents in the Teign Valley took to Facebook to share their views.
One resident said: ‘Just made it out of doddi (Doddiscombsleigh) up Tick Lane!
‘It has had a small sprinkle of snow over Haldon and it’s an ice rink out there all the way up to Route 5 so if you don’t need to go out then stay at home.’
What’s the roads and weather like where you are?
Send us your information and photos, we would love to see them.
