Fundraisers in Newton Abbot have raised nearly £100,000 for the Marie Curie cancer charity over the last six years.
They’ll be holding a ‘blooming great tea party’ on the Paignton to Kingswear steam train tomorrow, June 13, to raise even more money, to enable Marie Curie nurses to provide care for terminally ill people and their families and carers.
The group will be onboard the Devon Belle train offering goodie bags in return for a donation to the charity. The train runs from Paignton Station to Kingswear from 10am.
A spokeswoman for the group said: ‘Please come along and support us and help us celebrate Marie Curie’s 70th anniversary.
‘Locally, Marie Curie Nurses work night and day, in people’s homes across South Devon, providing hands-on care and vital emotional support.
‘Marie Curie also supports people throughout their illness by giving practical information, support from trained helper volunteers and being there when someone wants to talk.
‘The charity is also the leader in research into better ways of caring for people with terminal illness.’
