A FUN day of cycling has been arranged by a family in memory of their precious daughter, who lost her battle with mental health.

The day, which will include a bike ride of up to 50 miles, is being held in Ideford as a tribute to Danielle Cornish.

Her mum, Debbie, says: ‘In memory of our beautiful daughter Danielle, who lost her battle with mental health and to raise awareness of the struggles people face every day, sometimes unseen we are planning a 50 miles cycle ride on Saturday, March 18.

‘We want it to be a fun day starting and finishing in Ideford where Danielle grew up with a cuppa and cake finale in the village hall.

‘Danielle was born in August 1993 just a few days after we moved in to the village of Ideford. Danielle attended the local schools and eventually followed her dream of going to university and ended up making a life for herself in Cardiff.

‘Danielle was a high flyer and achieved a first-class honours in Psychology which enabled her to work for the office of national statistics.

‘During the pandemic she worked as a senior research officer on the mortality figures for Covid that helped to keep us all safe.

‘Danielle was a motivated professional woman with her own home and was extremely creative and loved to bake amazing cakes.

‘She was a loving cat mum to Travis and filled her time running and volunteering with local groups and played clarinet with The Cardiff wind band.

‘Sadly Danielle passed away just after her 29th birthday in August last year.

‘As a family we are totally devastated and our lives will never be the same but if we can raise much needed funds for The Samaritans it will enable them to help others like Danielle.

‘Danielle was a huge advocate of the Samaritans and we will be forever grateful for this.’

In Danielle’s own words: ‘The Samaritans are the only service I’ve found consistently amazing and non-judgemental. Every single volunteer I’ve spoken to has been incredible.’

‘We want people to realise that we are a normal family and this can happen to normal people like us.

‘Danielle didn’t look suicidal and we couldn’t see the torment that was going on inside her. You don’t always know what people are battling with on the inside.

‘So in Danielle’s memory her dad, Steve, is organising the cycle and you can join in at any point and cycle any amount of miles as the route takes in Exeter canal.’

You can contact Steve on 07970984729.

‘If you’d rather eat cake then join us at Ideford village hall from 12 noon until we sell out. Cycle, eat cake and Donate.’
