A FLOOD alert has been issued for the River Teign as Storm Gerrit has hit the region.
The Environment Agency issued the alert warning that flooding is possible for the rivers Teign, Bovey and Lemon as well as coastal streams along as far as Kenton.
A spokesman for the agency said: ‘Overnight and today we have seen heavy rainfall in the River Teign area.
‘This has meant that the River Teign is now rising, and river levels will remain high.
‘Levels suggest that there will be flooding to low lying land and roads close to the river.
‘We expect the river to remain high throughout today, Wednesday, though no flooding to properties is forecast.’
A fallen tree blocked the road at Oak Hill and Holcombe Down Road at lunchtime.
The incident had been reported to Devon Highways.
Forecasters said weather conditions are due to ease this afternoon.
