THE Bickington Goodwill Community will host their first Craft and Vintage Fair on Saturday, April 8, from 10am to 2pm, in Bickington Village Hall.
The group aims to raise money from stall holders and selling light refreshments and bacon rolls and a veggie alternative on the day.
Cash raised will go towards St Mary’s Repair Fund and Devon Wildlife Trust.
The Bickington Goodwill Community has developed from a regular monthly lunch club which started in September 2022. The lunch club happens once a month in Bickington Village Hall and offers a hot ‘pay what you can’, meal for anyone in the parish of Bickington and further afield.
It was started by Michael Hext to bring the community together and he was soon joined by Christine Carter and a number of other volunteers all wanting to build Community spirit and help fellow villagers.
The group was officially named Bickington Goodwill Community in February and joined by Karen Saunders as chair after being awarded its first grant which has enabled them to set up a weekly Community Cuppa in the hall too .
Michael Hext, founder member of the group, said we had a range of interesting craft stalls and a few vintage, we are trying to replace the broken oil heating system in St Mary’s with carbon neutral electric heaters and cushions and support Devon Wildlife Trust which was a favourite charity of Mrs Joan Warren a late member of the church .
Sarah Kersey, community development worker at Teignbridge CVS who is supporting the group in its development, said: ‘The members of this group are very enterprising in thinking up community fundraising ideas and are brilliant at bringing people together for good causes.’
