FIRE chiefs have repeated their plea for people to park their cars sensibly to allow emergency vehicles access to incidents.
Their call for more sensible parking comes after badly-positioned cars delayed their response to a hedge fire in Bradley Barton over the weekend.
One angry local resident in Mayfield Crescent said offenders should be given fixed penalty notices and points on their licence for the lack of care taken.
The resident said the quick action of neighbours saved the fire from spreading dangerously close to properties.
A fire spokesman confirmed that firefighters did experience difficulties and delays with cars blocking the narrow road.
‘It happens all over the place. It’s a continuing problem,’ he said.
Union Street and Western Road were particular problem areas, he revealed.
He urged motorists to give clear thought to where they left their vehicles.
