Cattle

The entry forward sold to a full complement of buyers around the sale ring with some buyers returning to the market for the first time in many years. 

All types forward met a fast trade with many people again commenting on the strength of the trade throughout.

An entry of cows and heifers forward for Mrs P Hardick from Ilsington sold to a top of £1425 for a 2012 Aberdeen Angus with a three-year Aberdeen Angus heifer selling to £1170. 

Store Cattle, Cows and  Calves

An excellent entry of forward cattle sold to a top of £1460 for a bunch of five twenty-three-month-old South Devon heifers from Messrs PW, EP & WG Coaker, Widecombe In The Moor. 

The Coaker’s continued their fine trade throughout with other similar aged heifers selling to £1390. A twenty-five-month-old Aberdeen Angus cross steer raced away to £1370, with other similar bred cattle racing away to £1350 for a bunch of seven for the Coaker family who topped both the steer and heifer sections.

Hot on the heels was Messrs Westdown Farm Ltd, Blackawton who sold the pick of their run to £1310 for six sixteen-month-old Aberdeen Angus cross steers and also sold British Blue cross steers to £1230. 

Mrs P Hardick sold her Aberdeen Angus heifer to £1150 with Hatherleigh Farms selling the pick of their run of cattle to £1140 for sixteen-month-old Hereford cross steers. 

South Devon cows and calves sold to £1120 for Miss AA Monro, Widecombe In The Moor.

Sheep

The entry forward met an easier trade than last sale with a top of £144 a head for 52.1kg lambs from Mr C Wilton who sold other to £140. Messrs AJ and AE Mabin, Gara Bridge sold the best of their run to £126 .

Cull ewes sold to £125 for Mr M Isted, Ogwell.

Standing Straw

The standing straw sale met a lot of sale interest with the winter wheat, winter oats and winter oilseed rape straw meeting a fast trade on behalf of Rt Hon G Lopes at Yealmpton.

Winter wheat straw sold to a top of £127/ac with other lots racing to £126, £124 (three times) with an average of £113.48/acre for the 200 acres sold. 

The winter oats met keen demand with a top of £130/ac, £124/ac and £106 (twice) with a sale average of £107.27 for the 100 acres. Winter oilseed rape sold to a top of £42/ac
