THIS picture of a sea slug, the Jorunna tomentosa, has been taken by Mike Puleston, a marine naturalist and a member of the Shores of South Devon group.

Mike says: ‘Jorunna tomentosa, is a not uncommon find on rocky shores around the UK usually found under stones, on rock faces and sometimes in rock pools as in the one featured.

‘It has a large Geographical distribution, being recorded from the Faroes through the Mediterranean to the coasts of Morocco. It is one of the larger Nudibranch Sea Slugs sometimes growing up to 6 cm in length, the individual shown measured 3.5 cm.

‘They can sometimes be found between April to August like many other Nudibranch Slugs next to a ribbon of spawn which can contain up to a 145,00 eggs.’
