A GLOBAL superstar cellist will be playing a special concert in the heart of Dartmoor next month.
Sheku Kanneh-Mason will be joined by pianist Harry Baker to present the concert Bach & Beyond at St Michael’s Church in Chagford on November 11.
Few artists possess a musical influence as far-reaching and cross-disciplinary as J. S. Bach, and this fascinating examination of his legacy takes the audience on a journey from Janáček and Villa-Lobos to Bill Evans and Pat Metheny.
Original works by J. S. Bach will include movements from the iconicCello Suite No. 1 in G major, and will sit amongst arrangements and improvisations deeply rooted in Bach's timeless music.
Since winning the BBC Young Musician competition in 2016, Sheku Kanneh-Mason has rocketed to worldwide fame, and was awarded an MBE in the 2020 New Year’s Honours list at the age of 20.
He performed at the royal wedding of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex at Windsor Castle in 2018 and has appeared at the BBC Proms every year since his debut in 2017.
Harry Baker is an award-winning British pianist and composer active at the highest levels of both jazz and classical performance.
As a jazz musician, he has worked with Jamie Cullum and Misha Mullov-Abbado and has played at venues including Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club and King’s Place. As a classical pianist, he has performed at Wigmore Hall, Royal Festival Hall and the Verbier Festival.
