The Ashburton Singers  are taking  their summer concert of sacred and secular music on tour this month  with  a series of charity fund-raising concerts. 

The choir enjoys visiting some of the most beautiful churches in the area, helping with their charitable work and taking advantage of the often marvellous acoustics. 

On the varied programme is music from the 15th century to the present day, chosen for its tunefulness and immediate appeal, including English and European sacred music, French chansons, folk song arrangements and Russian Orthodox music. Composers featured include Josquin, Palestrina, Tallis, Tchaikovsky and  Kodaly. 

The tour starts this weekend  at Denbury’s  St Mary the Virgin Church on Saturday July 6 . 

The  church has changed little since it was finished in the 13th century. It is cruciform in shape with a fine and spacious chancel and a barrel-vaulted roof which makes for a wonderful acoustic

Ashprington’s  St David’s Church is the next venue on  July 11 where the Singers will be joined by the Ashprington and  Tuckenhay Community Choir. Formed in February 2018 it provides for singers from the local villages an opportunity to enjoy an informal weekly singing session.

The short tour concludes at Kenton All Saints Church on Saturday July 13 with a concert that will be helping to raise funds for  ASK Friends, a community group which supports the conservation and maintenance of All Saints'
