YOUNGSTERS at Moretonhampstead Primary School were given an insight into how the Tudors lived.
As part of their project learning about the era, the children travelled to Buckland Abbey, home of Sir Francis Drake.
Sir Francis Drake was a famous Tudor sailor who made his fortune by stealing from the Spanish.
The trip gave the schoolchildren an opportunity to learn a little more about what life was like for the rich and powerful in those times.
They toured the abbey looking at some of Drake’s artefacts, including his drum and battle standards, before seeing how landowners and their servants lived at the Great Hall.
Fashion in the Tudor period was something else the children learned about before trying on some replica costumes.
Teacher Anne Burns said: ‘The children really enjoyed the experience, especially donning Tudor costumes.
‘They were surprised to learn that both Tudor shoes in a pair were exactly the same with no left or right.’
