YOUNGSTERS at Bearnes Primary School, Newton Abbot, have put their gardening skills to the test.
The green fingered bunch – among them Lawson and Farrell Wotton (pictured) took part in a series of hands-on gardening activities as part of a new topic they are studying.
The pupils are learning all about plants and growth so teachers thought putting on a Bearnes in Bloom day would fire up their imagination.
The Newton Abbot children, who were joined by pupils from Hennock Primary School for the day, took part in a nature walk, weeded, plated vegetables and even made their own biodegradable plant pots.
Macey, a reception pupil, said: ‘We have been getting the weeds out and seeing the roots. I planted a sunflower and if I water it, it will be the tallest one.’
Alice Eeles, who organised the day, said: ‘The children’s interest in the topic was fantastic and several members of the public stopped to see what we were doing and some offered some great advice.’
