THE number of arrests for drink driving in 2024 was down on the year before, a Freedom of Information (FOI) request has shown.

The number of drunk driving arrests made by Devon and Cornwall Police in 2024 was 1884, down from 2063 from the year before, the FOI shows.

May saw the highest number of arrests at 183, with the lowest number being in January at 107.

On the other hand, the month of December saw the highest number of arrests in 2023 at 250, with the lowest again being January.

If you're found to be over the drink-drive limit you can receive: a criminal record; a maximum penalty of six months in prison; an unlimited fine and/or an automatic driving ban of at least one year.
