A WEATHER warning for snow and ice has been issued by the Met Office.

The warning comes into force from 5pm on Monday, January 6 and runs into Tuesday, January 7.

Icy stretches are expected to develop this evening, before snow showers develop tomorrow morning.

Some roads and railways likely to be affected with longer journey times by road, bus and train services and icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths is likely.

This warning from the Exeter-based forecaster comes ahead of a second warning for snow on Wednesday, January 8.

While not all areas may be affected, outbreaks of snow may push in from the South West during Wednesday, potentially giving some significant accumulations in places, the forecaster has said.

Between two and five centimetres of snow could accumulate, with as much as ten centimetres over higher ground, places such as Dartmoor.
