DEVON’S young farmers were well represented at the National Farmers’ Union annual conference this week, as Devon YFC Vice Chair Dan Grist and Devon’s own Vice Chair to the National Federation of Young Farmers Rosie Bennett made the trip up to Birmingham.
The NFU conference, titled and themed ‘Feeding a Changing World’, kicked off on Tuesday and continued into Wednesday in Birmingham’s ICC.
It featured keynote speakers Mark Spencer MP, Sir Keir Starmer MP and Thérèse Coffey MP.
The conference saw discussions surrounding food security, headed by the union’s president Minette Batters, insights into farming realities and hardships, as well as government initiatives and funding to help the sector.
Minette Batters urged ministers to make good on their promises, saying: ‘The clock is ticking for government – to start putting meaningful, tangible and effective meat on the bones of the commitments it has made.’
