The event will include the Devon RFU’s U14/U16/U18 mixed girls touch 7’s festival alongside an u12’S introduction to Rugby (schools years Reception to Year 7). There will be food and drink available at the end with time to speak to the other girls, coaches, and exciting guests.
Girls of all abilities and levels are encouraged to join for sports, socialising, and free food to finish.
Emily Tuttosi, Exeter Chief Women’s player and Canadian international player will be attending the day – running some of the sessions, speaking to the girls, and as the second highest try scorer in the Women’s Rugby World Cup, hopefully sharing some secrets with those interested in taking up the sport.
Newton Abbot Rugby Club, for the first time in their history, have enough players to register the club in all four of the girls age groups for games. They are one of the few clubs to do this in the county, with others having to rely on clustering from other areas.
They are hoping to inspire a new cohort of girls into rugby and The Club through events like this, social media campaigns, and the continued brilliance of their volunteer coaches. Simon Coburn, Junior Director of Rugby at Newton Abbot, said “We are very proud to be leading the way in the region by hosting an event of this format this year, we’re hoping to get lots of girls to come along and wanting to join in.”
