A QUEST to find more burial spaces in ‘full up’ Ashburton has reached a dead end for the time being, town councillors heard this week.
The bad news for those hoping the town will be their final resting place came from Ashburton’s vicar, The Rt Rev Mark Rylands.
He revealed that one possible spare piece of ground – along a hedge border in St Andrew’s Church – had been ruled out by the church authorities.
It’s understood the favoured spot could have absorbed another 100 burials in the hallowed ground if consent had been successful.
