Almost 2,000 cyclists took part in the Dartmoor Classic Cyclosportive on Sunday, making it possibly the biggest yet bike event in the south west.
The riders had to traverse the moors via some long climbs, including Trendlebere, Hexworthy and Holne, before they arrived at the main control at Princetown.
From there, after being fed and watered, the 100k distance riders returned across the moors via the Warren House Inn and Moretonhampstead, and over Doccombe, heading into the Teign Valley for the finishing leg.
The 100-mile riders had to descend from the moors heading towards Tavistock, and then had to climb back to Princetown for a second helping before their long haul to the finish.
The last man home arrived at 7pm, at Abbrook Park, Kings-teignton, where the base hosted a weekend of entertainment.
Shortly after the ride, promoter Ron Keegan was inundated with emails complimenting the organisation on the event, many stating that they believed it to be among the best Cyclosportive ones in the country.
Newton Abbot is the host for another major cycling event this weekend – the Devon Delight Bike ride starts from the recreational trust at 9am on Sunday, taking in 100km of lanes and scenery, and for those who want a few more miles in their legs, the Torplex 200km sister event will take riders over Dartmoor and on to Plymouth.
