NEWTON Abbot’s firefighters were called into action this week as a van caught fire.

Crew were mobilised on Monday evening following reports of the blaze.

Upon arrival, the crew were met with smoke and flames issuing from a van, with the engine bay and driver compartment well alight.

The Incident Commander (IC) sent two firefighters wearing Breathing Apparatus (BA) to go and extinguish the fire using a hose reel jet.

‘The crew also had to utilise small tools and a reciprocating saw to remove areas of the dashboard to ensure the fire was fully extinguished’ a spokesperson for Newton Abbot Fire Station said.

‘As always, the crew worked quickly and efficiently to douse the fire, and as a result, the damage was limited to the front of the van’ the spokesperson added.
