A RWANDAN coffee grower was the guest of Dawlish Fairtrade Friends.
Vincent Nsengiyumva is the managing director of the organic coffee co-operative Twongerekawacoko.
He was invited to an afternoon tea held at the Strand Centre as part of Fairtrade Fortnight 2023.
His talk was described as ‘wonderfully informative’.
He explained how Fairtrade helps his community ion the northern province of the central African country and benefits the environment. His visit was a chance to show how the Fairtrade movement is important to developing countries as social, economic and environmental levels.
It also promotes equality for women and offers a fair price for produce.
Vincent’s co-operative is also now buying cattle for the region which will widen their diet and provide fertilisers for the land.
He had also visited a Fairtrade group in Bovey Tracey where he was given a tour of the town’s cafes, retailers and a pub.
