LOCAL charities in the Teignbridge and  Exeter  areas have received a share of £16,000 thanks to classic vehicle show.

The Crash Box and Classic Car Club of Devon held their annual Historic Vehicle Gathering at Powderham Castle back in July, and last week the rally committee were able to present the three headline charities; Teignmobility,  Royal Devon Hospitals Charity and  Veterans with Dogs Exeter with the money raised.

Teignmobility , formerly Teignmouth Shopmobility is part of a nationwide network of centres that hires out mobility equipment to the public. This equipment enables people with restricted mobility to enjoy independence outdoors. These hire services are low cost or sometimes free to all ages of people looking to access shops and leisure facilities.

Eight other local charities represented at the  Historic Vehicle Gathering have also received donations from the club.

Mike Overfield-Collins, the rally chairman, said: ‘We are delighted to be able to support the work of these local charities, all of whom do a fantastic job supporting many people in our area.

‘This year we were pleased to see around 1,500 vehicles on display and a healthy turnout of show goers on both days. A very big thank you to all our exhibitors, traders, show visitors and volunteers who helped made this year’s Historic Vehicle Gathering such a success.’

The Crash Box and Classic Car Club of Devon have been staging the gathering at Powderham Castle, Kenton, near Exeter, Devon, since 1975. Over the years it has enabled the club to donate in the region of £275,000 to many local charities and some national charities.

This achievement saw the club receiving recognition at the National Car Clubs Awards in 2022 where it won the Charitable Endeavours Award for its continued fundraising activities over the years.

The Crash Box and Classic Car Club have confirmed that its 50th Historic Vehicle Gathering will take place on July 12 and 13 2025, with planning for this very special weekend is already well underway.
