THE Teign Choral Society are holding their Christmas concert at St James’ Church, Teignmouth, on Wednesday, in support of the League of Friends of Teignmouth Hospital.
It will be a traditional event, with readings and many opportunities to sing much loved carols.
Included will be works by the composer John Rutter, who has, for many years, contributed hugely to celebrations around the world through his wonderful Christmas music.
The choir will also perform the mediaeval German fable Brother Heinrich’s Christmas, as set to music by Rutter. This tells the story of 14th century Dominican Abbot Heinrich, who writes down the lovely carol in dulci Jubilo after it has been sung to him by a chorus of angels. He is helped in performance of the carol by his singing donkey Sigismund. Barry Wilson will narrate the story.
Once again the choir will be directed by David Bowles, in the seventh year of his tenure as music director, while there will also be a welcome to the new accompanist Carol Massey, who is well known in the area and has contributed greatly to its musical life.
Tickets from Teign Music, choir members, league of friends committee members and at the door. They include seasonal refreshments.
