IT WAS a happy day for Chloe Quantick (pictured left), of Teigngrace near Newton Abbot, at the Devon County Show last week when she scooped Reserve Breed Champion with her bull Beckaveans Bardhesaw.
Her young bull was second in the entire section of classes for South Devon cattle.
It was particularly poignant as Chloe’s mentor, her star cattle breeder grandad Brian Quantick, died in March.
A regular at the show, he taught Chloe everything she knows about South Devon cattle.
She promised on his deathbed that she would carry on in his footsteps at Blatchford Farm. And with a clutch of rosettes for her bull, cow and calf, she certainly did him proud.
Chloe said: ‘This year is special. I lost my grandad back in March and he insisted that I carry on showing and breeding the cattle to do him proud. With two wins and for my bull to get reserve male champion was amazing. I’m really really proud.’
She added: ‘I’ve been coming to the show since I was tiny. My new sign on my stand even has his photo in the middle so I feel like grandad is with me. Bless him. It was hard to come alone this time, but I have done it and I hope I’ve done him proud.’
