WORKMEN will be shutting Shaldon Bridge tomorrow night to carry out ‘essential’ structural repairs.
Motorists will be banned from using the bridge between 8pm on tomorrow night and 2am on Friday morning.
Concrete will be poured around the structure’s pier support – which currently contains rotting wood.
A highways spokesman said: ‘Poor weather conditions have so far hampered efforts to reinforce the Grade II Listed structure.
‘Tomorrow’s overnight closure has been determined by suitable tide times and to minimise disruption to motorists and it is hoped there will be a favourable weather window.’
Contractors TMS Ltd, based in Teignmouth, have warned works could again be delayed if bad weather hits.
