Bovey Tracey’s Christmas market and light switch on, which was due to take place on Saturday (December 7), has been cancelled due to the forecast arrival of Storm Darragh.
Bovey Tracey Carnival Association, which organised the event, said it had taken the decision to cancel due to the amber weather warning.
‘We are incredibly disappointed that the weather has put a stop to our usual festivities. However, we are thinking of safety for all involved and with the risk of strong winds we believe that the decision is a sensible one,’ a Bovey Tracey Carnival Association spokesperson said.
‘The decision hasn’t been taken lightly and we have tried to delay it as long as possible but we cannot ignore the Met Office warnings,’ the spokesperson added.
The chair of Bovey Tracey Carnival Association hopes to discuss with the town council the possibility of arranging a different date for the light switch on part of the event.
The planned Festive Drive By Event planned for Sunday December 22 will still go ahead as planned.
Late night shopping evenings in Bovey that are unaffected by the storm will also take place.
