SIX members of Teignmouth and Dawlish Ramblers joined forces with 18 members of the Dartmoor Preservation Association for an eight-mile walk starting from Princetown last Sunday. Walking along the railway track they crossed the road to Hart Tor, then down the other side to Meavy and Black Tor Falls, before continuing on to Raddick Falls, which was their main climb. The group then followed the Devonport Leat and crossed open moorland to reach the main track back to Princetown.
Another group, consisting of 11 members of Teignmouth and Dawlish Ramblers, began their walk from the pretty village of South Brent. Crossing the River Avon at Lydia Bridge, they climbed steadily along the Aish Ridge, enjoying the abundance of wild flowers in the hedgerows. Reaching Brent Moor via Ball Gate, the group continued on down the steep descent of Diamond Lane before arriving at Shipley Bridge for lunch. Their walk then took them through woodland where a goodly show of bluebells was still to be seen. The ramblers then went on to Lutton where they then followed the lanes back to South Brent.
Next week there will be two walks, one of 10 miles starting at Warren House Inn and the second of five-and-a-half miles from Harberton. Telephone 01626 773068 or 01626 772131 for further information.
