BLACK smoke could be seen issuing from public toilets in Newton Abbot after a possible fire.

Firefighters were quick to respond to reports of smoke coming from the public toilets at Courtenay Park.

An eyewitness, who was returning home after visiting town, described seeing thick black smoke coming from the mens toilet.

It was first reported just before 5pm on Monday, January 13.

Initial investigation of the scene points to toilet paper having been set alight, however this has yet to be confirmed.
