Centre members and residents are being asked for their views on refurbishment proposals which would future proof Broadmeadow Sports Centre for the next 20 years.
The consultation aims to make sure any changes meet the needs of current and would-be centre users.
For six week, residents are encouraged to complete the short online survey which will be running alongside an in-centre survey aimed at active centre users and a January series of pop-up high street surveys in Teignmouth, Shaldon and Bishopsteignton.
Proposals include:
- Relocating the centre entrance and reception so access will be from the carpark
- Refurbishing changing rooms to provide single sex, family and unisex (village) changing and showering facilities
- Creating a ground floor studio to accommodate those with accessibility needs and to run more classes
- Expanding and opening out the ground floor gym spaces and first floor studio to increase the number of equipment stations
- Making the building more energy efficient by increasing insulation levels and replacing the boiler system with a low carbon air source heat pump
- Implementing aesthetic improvements to a create fresh and bright spaces.
The consultation will close on 19 January 2024 and the feedback will be used to help shape the project’s planning application.
Executive member for Open Spaces, Leisure, Sport, Resorts and Tourism, Cllr John Nutley said: 'We are pleased to bring forward for consultation these exciting developments for the sports centre that will benefit our communities and the environment.
'The proposed changes will deliver a sports centre fit for the future and which will enable users to access wellbeing opportunities and to remain active with us.'
Subject to the outcome of the planning application, building works and project delivery are expected to get underway from mid-2024 and everything will be done to minimise disruption to centre users.
